Recognition of Interdisciplinary Research in Academic Evaluation and Research Support

Istanbul Nişantaşı University recognizes interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research as an important component of academic development and scientific innovation. In order to encourage collaboration across different academic disciplines, the university has established institutional research policies and research support mechanisms that promote interdisciplinary research activities across its academic units.

The university’s Research Policy highlights the importance of multidisciplinary research participation and encourages students and academic staff to take part in interdisciplinary research projects in order to enhance knowledge sharing and academic collaboration. In this context, participation of students and academics in multidisciplinary research projects is emphasized as an important mechanism for strengthening knowledge exchange and academic cooperation.

Interdisciplinary collaboration is also supported through the university’s Scientific Research Projects (BAP) framework, which explicitly allows and encourages research projects conducted individually or collaboratively across disciplines. Within the BAP project structure, Normal Research Projects (NAP) include research and development activities carried out by academic staff either individually or through interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition, Guided Projects (GP) prioritize research initiatives that bring together different disciplines within the university in order to develop research infrastructure, strengthen scientific production, and generate high-impact academic outputs.

Furthermore, the Scientific Activities Coordination Directive assigns the Scientific Activities Coordination Office the responsibility of proposing initiatives to the Rectorate aimed at expanding national and international research projects within the university, particularly interdisciplinary projects. This institutional mechanism supports the development and dissemination of interdisciplinary research collaborations across academic units.

Within this institutional framework, interdisciplinary academic contributions supported by the university may include:

• scientific publications produced through collaboration between researchers from different disciplines
• interdisciplinary research projects and externally funded research initiatives
• interdisciplinary academic events such as congresses, workshops, and research seminars
• collaborative research outputs involving multiple departments, faculties, or research centers

Through these institutional policies and research support mechanisms, Istanbul Nişantaşı University aims to strengthen a research culture that values collaboration, innovation, and the integration of knowledge across disciplinary boundaries.

Over time, Istanbul Nişantaşı University has progressively strengthened its institutional support for interdisciplinary research through the development of research policies, project funding mechanisms, and coordinated scientific activities. The implementation of a comprehensive research policy framework, the expansion of BAP-supported research projects, and the institutional role of the Scientific Activities Coordination Office have contributed to creating an academic environment that increasingly encourages collaboration among different disciplines. In addition, the university’s senior leadership regularly promotes interdisciplinary collaboration through research meetings, academic workshops, and thematic working sessions that bring together scholars from different fields to exchange ideas and develop joint research initiatives. Also in accordance with the Academic Incentive Directive, outstanding interdisciplinary scholarly works may be recognized and rewarded within the university’s academic incentive framework.

This evolving research ecosystem supports the integration of knowledge across disciplines and contributes to the university’s growing research capacity and scientific innovation.
